Spoken words

Every now and again, I’m invited to share my thoughts on a range of different topics. Here are some of my recent engagements.

the moth sydney: storyslam November 2018

With a theme of “Beginnings” for the event, I told my story about “the beginning of the end… of my career” when I left my job in a bank, to embark on a 1000km, two million step walk across Spain towards Santiago de Compostela. After ten great stories, I was voted the night’s co-winner and will be going to the finals in 2019!

Disrupt Sydney 2018

In this talk, I spoke about my recent research revealing insights into new forms of knowledge work through emerging professional “superheros”; individuals who are helping their organisation to navigate uncertainty, embrace disruption, and create the future, all the while holding down their “day” jobs.

sessional & guest lecturer

IBUS3107 Business Negotiations where I designed and co-facilitated a semester long undergraduate course shaping future leaders to engage in business and collaboration to achieve outcomes for all. My teaching approach draws on my own leadership style, which is participatory, practical, reflective, and reflexive to the needs and progress of students, recognising and drawing on their strengths and experiences. This has led to consistently high teaching quality assessments and engagement ratings.

I was also recently invited as a guest lecturer in three undergraduate classes at the University of Sydney Business School:

WORK2210 Strategic Management course where I spoke about innovation in aged care services and my work with BallyCara as Catalyst in Residence and Director of People & Culture

INFS1020 Digital Work course where I presented my research on coworking space in Australia.

BUDL2901 Leading Creative Futures, part of the high-achiever Dayell undergraduate program where I shared my own story of intrapreneurship and my doctoral research on revealing organisational superheros.
